Sammy’s WATERCOLOR SPLASH FUN Collection

Sammy’s WATERCOLOR SPLASH FUN Collection

I like these pieces so much that I have them proudly displayed in our master bedroom, Sammy let me have them. All I can say is that I’m a very proud dad!

More Original artwork by Sammy BeeZee – First of 2021!

My daughter Sammy and I had a fun and bonding afternoon. At some point during our chilling hang out time, she just suddenly stood up and said “painting” – then she started making her way towards her art supplies. I was happy about it, because she hasn’t really asked for painting since the beginning of this year. It was like she had something in her mind… At first, I thought she was only going to do one painting, but to my surprise as soon as she finished the first one, she went ahead and grabbed a second identically sized canvas. For both pictures she used watercolor, I was curious to see how that would turn out in the end. Last time we didn’t quite use the right type of canvas for watercolor (although the final product turned very interesting both in color and texture) – that time we just used whatever was laying around. This time I had a couple of smaller flat canvases ready for action. Sammy went for them.

As it is usual, Sammy punished the $#!^ out of the paintbrushes, some of them didn’t survive the experience. You can generally tell a Sammy original due to all the paintbrush bristles that end up being part of the actual picture… I’ve done all I could to dissuade her from destroying the brushes like that… but, I have grown to accept it… though I must admit, the way she pressures the hell out of the canvas with the paint brushes do give the overall picture an interesting look… almost as vectors. I am not saying Sammy is doing that as artistic touch on purpose – necessarily – but then again, I never know what she’s going to come up with until she finishes her pictures. What I am saying though is: “Artistic license gives the artist freedom of expression” ~ Marcelo Baqueroalvarez. — And I am happy to be witness of her artistic process and therefore much obliged to help her express herself.

This is Sammy's first professional-level material use of watercolor.  Watercolor Splash Fun | “Sammy Original” Collection JAN 2021.   A small collection of two 5 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ watercolor pieces over flat canvas, framed on a 16″ x 13″ frame. This was a fun time for both of us. The collection had no rules, just Sammy going nuts with the colors, she chose – as usual – all brushes (most of which went bald), the canvas, and we just utilized whatever was still left of the watercolors from her first collection. To my surprise there was some watercolor left after the second picture. Meanwhile, I just went ahead and started with dinner prep and cooking, and after she was done, I went ahead and framed… one of the paintings… then I went to the store the next day to get an identical frame. Unfortunately, they didn’t have an identical in stock to the one I framed… so I ended up getting her the identical frames you can see in the picture. Which I prefer, because that small black framing does help the colors pop. Now I just have to decide where we’ll end up hanging them. I have a few places in mind, but I definitely want Sammy to help me choose the spot.

Inspiration: First free hand watercolor of 2021. Admittedly, this is quite an abstract picture… but if you look very carefully you can see some kind mammal that looks either like an armadillo, a mammoth, a running fluffy horse, or something. Seriously, the more you look the more stuff seems to come up. Sammy was not really going after a particular theme, except for total freedom of randomness, and see what this spur of spontaneous fun turned out to be. The result, a lot of fun with color.

Inspiration: Second free hand watercolor of 2021. Just like the previous, no rules just fun. I cannot tell you what it is, or what it represents… or even what was exactly crossing her mind. She was just having fun, being free and letting her emotions run wild. In fact, she brought a lot of her dolls and put them around her work area. To me art does not need to mean something in particular, it is more about that you feel and what the artist feels as they express – in whatever artistic manifestation they’ve chosen. What I see is a piece that is as enigmatic and free as my little girl’s personality. And maybe the head of an angry baboon… she does have quite the collection of monkey stuffed animals.

This small collection was gifted by Sammy to us, and it adorns the master bedroom.  HLC
