Sammy painted not one, but TWO collections! This is very exciting, because each one is very distinctive from the other. She was super inspired!
Sammy BeeZee is back, this time with two small collections
This has been a pretty busy week, but finally yesterday we got a chance to spend some with Sammy and enjoyed some painting time. Sammy enjoys painting with an audience (mainly me), so she was waiting very patiently for this moment. This time we had five small frames, and we figured that we could use them to deplete the rest of our old acrylic tubes, before we venture and open the new ones – stashed in her art supplies box. This is the first time she worked on multiple pictures almost-simultaneously. This started as a matter of convenience, first so we could distribute the remaining acrylics as relevantly even as possible. And also, because these were small format pictures, but Sammy wanted to share two very different visions. As it is usual, I had no idea what she was going to come up with until the very end. These collections took two days to complete. Yesterday she put all the base coloring, let it dry overnight and then she asked to let her work on it first thing this morning.

Nature
A small collection of three pieces, two 8″ x 10″ in landscape and one of the same sizes in portrait. These pieces – as others before – seem to be inspired by the small creek in our back yard, and a nature walk she took with Alicia a few days ago. Sometimes we have pretty strong winds and rain (though not lately) where we live, and in the midst of it all these chaos there is some tranquility. For this collection Sammy utilized a bunch of new paintbrushes. I figured she needed a few more because she punishes the hell out of each brush in order to achieve some of her characteristic textures. After letting the darker (yes, the backgrounds were a lot darker, though had several colors) dry overnight, she chose some lighter colors to add the second layer of texture and blended them together with a couple of broader brushes. It was only then when I got to see how those colors blended and combined – and her vision came to fruition. Again, I never know what Sammy will come up at the end – until she puts her paint brushes away.
Eyes Closed
A small collection of two pieces, 4″ x 6″ in portrait. Sammy worked on these pieces at the same time as she was working with the other three in the previous collection. Yesterday it was all about the “black” – she used a neon black acrylic and went nuts with it… she was layering and layering textures on the same color. I think she likes the brightness of this particular black paint. And yes, she also used a lot of it on the other pieces. This morning, she looked for some contrasting colors and remembered the “clumping” technique we worked on a long time ago. She first started clumping even more black paint for texture, then added a lot of the yellow and other colors, and then as it dried up, she used a broader brush to blend… but instead of giving a brush stroke, she would tap and strategic places to turn those clumps onto whatever shapes these ended up being depicted. When I asked Sammy what these were supposed to be, she just looked at me and closed her eyes very tightly, then she laughed.
So, I did the same, I closed my eyes very tightly, and all these weird yellow and crazy clumping figures started appearing as I opened my eyes. Which made me realize these were images of her own introspection. As with any of Sammy’s pictures the light and angle will bring very different textures.

Inspiration: Sammy loves admiring the wind and rain, mostly through her window. The power of nature and the sway of the trees and leaves. I don’t know of when exactly this windy and rainy-day depiction came into her memory… it was not this weekend, but she does like them. Chances is that she has pictures of that in her iPhone, he loves making small videos in slow motion showing the dynamics of motion of things she finds interesting. For this picture, she used a base of very dark colors, and then today she added the brighter texture with glitter infused acrylics on very specific parts of her picture to let the tranquility of the previous layer remain intact. She then utilized two different sized big brushes and went to town on the picture… then used some of the color that was left on her paintbrushes and rolled them over the areas she chose and then she blended the picture again, resulting in this piece of light and dark motion. As with any of Sammy’s pictures, the angle changes how the colors and textures play with the viewer. The more you look at it, the more stuff comes out of it.

Inspiration: Sammy, just like her mom love a nature walk every chance they get. During these walks, Sammy specially loves seeing bodies of water and the foliage of nature on the opposite shore. You might have noticed by now; Sammy likes adding some “water” reference to most of her pictures. The very earthy colors and the juxtaposition of the water, and golden hour sky is reflected on this piece. Yes, Sammy does trend on the very abstract, but the closer you look the more stuff you’ll find, like i did that little bird almost camouflaged in the foliage, near the waves on the left side of the picture. Or the leaves dancing on the top of the picture against a cloudy sky.

Inspiration: The other day Sammy helped me “rescue” some of her toys who happened to “fall” from her bedroom window. Sometimes she likes taking pictures of these toys from her window ledge. I have not yet seen her push any toy willingly. However, as we were picking them up, we spotted a rabbit hole behind the tree. There was no rabbit home, but I pointed to her that bunnies live in those little holes and probably it went looking for food. The hole was otherwise pretty well hidden behind a little bush and the trees outside her bedroom. I didn’t know what she was painting, until this morning when she put quite a bit of black paint in the middle of her picture and started blending it in and adding some other earthly colors. Then she said “bunny home” – hence the name of this piece.

Inspiration: Sammy just went for mostly all almost depleted tubes of acrylic into this free-spirited picture, as she was working almost simultaneously with the other pictures in these two collections. If you close your eyes very tightly and press them with the palm of your hands for a few seconds and start relaxing your face muscles you will see some crazy images dancing in front of your eyes as you slowly open your eyes (at least I can), and possibly the same is true for Sammy. She enjoys closing her eyes and when she opens them, she laughs. This small picture is just an introspection on her little world, when she can play around with her own discovery of the beauty in her own nature.

Inspiration: Sammy worked in this picture simultaneously, and just as it was with the first picture, just encapsulated her vision after shutting her little eyes. Sammy has always been fascinated by color, she has a few led lamps that change colors (with a little remote control), and would look at objects under the different color, and discover how the light affects their appearance. More than anything this picture was about having fun utilizing the last of her old art supplies before breaking out the new sets. Giving those old art supplies a chance to become immortalized on her canvas.
These two small collections adorn Sammy's bedroom. HLC
