Life is too short and time waits for no one. I started Half Life Crisis as daughter-dad project, but the idea was born more before she was even born. I cannot begin to tell you how many projects that were left in the back burner almost never came to fruition. I realized that the only way to make dreams come true is if we are awake to chase after them. I have a lot artistic passions, and now that I've retired from the mighty US Navy, I can finally tackle those dreams that were dormant for so long. Better late than never! The following is a list of my many ongoing artistic interests that are currently in motion.

I wrote several manuscripts while deployed onboard the world-famous USS COLE DDG-67. It took a long time, because I had only very little time off during that time. I released two books, and I plan to publish my other manuscripts later this year.

All my books are nonfiction, thought provoking and mind-blowing analysis that are meant to have the reader gain greater introspection and perspective.

I fell in love with music I was only four years old. My favorite part about music is singing. I became a multi-instrumentalist accruing a very vast collection of limited-edition musical instruments. From an early age, after I learned to play the piano, I’ve written and composed several songs, which at the time I recorded on old-school audio cassette tapes. Music is therapeutic for me, and growing up was my go-to method of introspection. When I was teenager, I used to play in garage bands with my friends. I’ve not been a part of a band ever since mostly because I moved to the USA when I was very young, and forming a band just never really happened, though we jammed with a few friends every now and then. When it comes to genres, I have a very diverse taste in music. My preference are music that is both complex and spontaneous. I’m not a huge fan of music that feels commercialized or that has a shallow premise. Realizing that music preferences are subjective, my preference is about craftsmanship and artistic execution. For example, I am not a fan of repetitive musical phrases or lyrics. I’ll be adding examples of my original music on our Half Life Crisis YouTube and Patreon pages whenever I’ll have the time to produce and release my original compositions.

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in 1999. My major was on Video Production, and I loved it! Part of the curriculum also included photography, and many other intricacies that are about bringing a concept into reality. With my family we've owned a video production and multimedia company until I joined the US Navy in 2003. While in the Navy I also performed many duties that required capturing video and still images, but these were largely for official duties and not artistic purposes, although artistic videography and photography did take place once in a while in uniform. I have vast experience in several formats and styles for photo and video capturing. You can see many examples of video and photography on our official social media accounts.

Graphic design is one of my favorite activities. I've done professional graphic design for many years both for screen and print, but I also enjoy designing it for fun. For example, all the graphic design elements for this website were done by yours truly. To me, visual arts is about messaging, and the conveyance of communication that gets more complex the more you see it. All my artistic work has easter eggs hidden, the more you look the more you'll find. The style will depend on the project, it can range from very simplistic to exuberantly complex. Part of the fun is to decide in which direction this vision will come to life. The fact is that every element has a symbolic meaning. To me, having the audience discover a lot more than what meets the eye is very exciting.

I've always enjoyed public speaking. Paradoxically, although I’m an introvert, I’m not shy at all. I've been honored to be invited as a keynote speaker for several events, before, while, and after I served in the US Navy. I've also conducted countess training sessions and briefings for a wide range of audiences. There is something about speaking to a group that is very exciting to me. I realize that a lot of people freeze when they have to speak to a large group, I don't have that issue, I actually love the experience and the opportunity to address others on topics I find interesting. For what I’ve heard the audience also enjoys whenever I’m speaking to them. And yes, I am unapologetic about expressing my point of view based on facts.

I can write as fast I think, which either means I am a very fast typer or a very slow thinker. Whatever the case, sometimes having a long conversation with my keyboard is exactly what I need to regain focus, and I can conversate with my keyboard as fast as thoughts manifest inside my head. Unsurprisingly, I have a lot to say, and this is one of the reasons why I created Half Life Crisis. I like to rant, a lot, about all kinds of things I find interesting in exuberant detail. By the way, ranting does not equal rambling. The former details complex matters, the latter is just a word salad, even if garnished with flowery words and epithets. My preferred writing style is down to earth, and conversational. However, given the circumstances or the task I can accommodate a range spanning from tremendously formal to very comedic, and everything in between. As far as writing I prefer using English as my first alternative, although it is my third language, and as my second alternative I like to write in Spanish, which is my native tongue. In case you wonder why I prefer English; it is because of my computer’s keyboard layout. Now you know.
